What is a Sentence

SENTENCE :-  A sentence is a group of  worlds which makes a complete sense is called a sentence .
 
                               or

    A sentence is a group of worlds, arranged in a way to express complete sense.

Example :-     1.   Ram plays football.
                       2.   Radha writes a letter.
                       3.   She is going to school.


 KINDS OF SENTENCE 

1. ASSERTIVE SENTENCE
2. INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE
3. IMPERATIVE SENTENCE
4. OPTATIVE SENTENCE
5. EXCLAMATORY SENTENCE


1. ASSERTIVE SENTENCE :-  A sentence that states or declares something is called an assertive sentence.

(a) Affirmative sentence
(b) Negative sentence



a. AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCE - An affirmative sentence conveys a positive meaning.

(1)  Sita sings a fine song.
(2)  Rohit is a good swimmer.
(3)  He should obey his parents.
(4)  I have taken my share. 
       
b. NEGATIVE SENTENCE :- A negative sentence conveys a negative meaning.            
(1) Sita does not sing a fine song.
(2) Rohit is not a good swimmer.
(3) He should not obey his parents.
(4) I have not taken my share.               



2.  INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE :-  A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence.

(1) Is she a doctor ?
(2)  Do you know me ?  
(3)  Shall we play the game.
(4)  Had you taken your book ?

In interrogative sentence the helping verb comes before the subject.
* Sign of interrogation ( ? ) comes at the end.                                           
                                 
Interrogative sentence is also made with 'Wh' words
                    
(1) Where does she live?            
(2) Why have they come here? 
(3) Who is your teachers?        
(4) When do you get up ?
       
3. IMPERATIVE SENTENCE :- An imperative sentence expresses , command , request , advice or porhibition.

(1) Post this letter at once.           
(2) Please, bring a glass of water. 
(3) Obey your parents.                   
(4) Do not smoke here.
            
4. OPTATIVE SENTENCE :- A sentence which expresses a wish or a prayer is called an optative sentence .

(1) May you live long! 
(2) May you pass the class!   
(3) May you be blessed with a son!     
(4) May you get success!
(5) May you prosper!                                                                     

5. EXCLAMATORY SENTENCE :-  An exclamatory sentence expresses a sudden feeling of joy , sorrow or wonder.

(1) Oh! He is dead.                       
(2) Alas! He has ruined.         
(3) Hurrah! We have won the match.  
(4) What a beautiful girl she is!       
(5) Hush! He is coming.
