8 Parts of speech

There are eight parts of speech in the English Language. The parts of speech tell us how the word functions in meaning as well its use in grammar. Understanding them in essential to deliver the right message.

NOUN (संज्ञा)

1. Noun :- A noun is the name of a person, an animal, a place, a thing, or a quality, action and state.

किसी व्यक्ति पशु स्थान वस्तु या गुण कार्य और दशा को प्रकट करने वाला शब्द संज्ञा कहलाता है।

Person - Ram, Sita 

Place - Delhi, Agra 

Thing - Pencil, Doll 

Animal- Dog, Cat

Quality - Bravery, Goodness

Action - Race, Obedience

State - Poverty, Health

(i) Mohan is reading a book.

(ii) This is my dog.

(iii) Delhi is the capital of India.

(iv) Sheela write with pencil.

PRONOUN (सर्वनाम)

2. Pronoun :- Pronoun is a word which is used in place of a noun.

Noun के स्थान पर प्रयुक्त होने वाले शब्द को Pronoun कहते हैं।

He is a good boy. 

They are reading books.

I have a lot of toys. 

She sings well.

ADJECTIVE (विशेषण)

3. Adjective :- An adjective is a word which qualifies a noun or a pronoun.

वह शब्द जो Noun या Pronoun की विशेषता बताए, Adjective कहलाता है।

Harish is a poor person.

Reeta is a beautiful girl.

Akbar was a great king.

He is a brave boy.

VERB (क्रिया)

4. Verb :- A verb is a word used to say something about some person, place or thing.

वह शब्द जो किसी व्यक्ति, वस्तु या स्थान के बारे में कुछ कहे, verb कहलाता है।

He plays football daily.

The boys run a race.

Mohan writes a letter.

He bought a fan.

ADVERB (क्रिया-विशेषण)

5. Adverb :- An adverb is a word which qualifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb.

(वह शब्द जो verb, adjective या अन्य adverb की विशेषता बताए, Adverb कहलाता है।

He seldom goes to school.

I always speak the truth.

He runs fast.

I came here very quickly.

She is a very poor lady.

PREPOSITION (संबंधबोधक)

6. Preposition :- Preposition is a word placed before a noun or a pronoun to show its relation with something else in the sentence.

ऐसा शब्द जो कसी Noun या Pronoun के साथ आकर उसका sentence मैं किसी और शब्द से संबंध दर्शाता है, Preposition कहलाता हैं।

The watch is on the table. 

They laughed at him.

He is sitting in the garden. 

He is away from me.

CONJUNCTION

7. Conjunction :- A conjunction is a word used to join two words or sentences.

ऐसा शब्द जो शब्दों या वाक्यों को जोड़े, conjunction कहलाता है।

Wait here till I return. 

Ram and Shyam are good friends. 

Work hard or you will fail. 

He is miser but he is honest.

INTERJECTION (विस्मय सूचक)

8. Interjection:- An interjection is a word which expresses some sudden feeling or emotion.

ऐसा शब्द जो आकस्मिक भावनाओं या आवेगों को व्यक्त करें, Interjection कहलाता है।

Bravo! He has won the match.

Oh! He is no more. 

Hush! The lion has come. 

Alas! I am undone.
